What areas do you serve?

For our in-home personal chef service, we currently serve the Waterloo Region and surrounding areas. For our pre-made meal delivery service, we are currently delivering to Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge North, Cambridge Northwest and Cambridge West. You can arrange to pick up your food at our #1-20 Hurst Ave location on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Use postal code N2G 2Z7 to create your order, and use our #1-20 Hurst Ave address as your shipping address.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we have an Ontario Master Business License and general liability insurance.

A personal chef is a great way to save time and money. As a personal chef, we am here to bring balance to your life on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. We will work with you to customize your meals, prepare them for you and leave you with detailed reheating instructions. Hiring a personal chef is a great way to stick to a healthy lifestyle and help bring down the costs of eating out. It’s also a great way to get that restaurant experience, without leaving your home.

What does the in-home weekly meal schedule like? 

The Weekly Meal Service is scheduled for one day a week from Monday to Friday. The average schedule includes groceries at 8:00 AM and in-home meals are cooked from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. If needed, times can be slightly adjusted to meet your needs.

What does the in-home bi-weekly meal schedule like?

The Bi-Weekly Meal Service is scheduled for one day every second week from Monday to Friday. The average schedule includes groceries at 8:00 AM and in-home meals are cooked from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. If needed, times can be slightly adjusted to meet your needs.

What does the in-home monthly batch / freezer meal schedule like?

The Monthly Batch / Freezer Meal Service is scheduled for one day every four weeks from Monday to Friday. The average schedule includes groceries at 8:00 AM and in-home meals are cooked from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. If needed, times can be slightly adjusted to meet your needs.

Where do you prepare the food?

For the personal chef service, the food is prepared in your home. For our pre-made meal delivery service, the food is prepared in a certified commercial kitchen space that we rent.

Do I need to be home while you are preparing our personal chef meals?

No, similar to a cleaning service FoodZen wants to cause the least disruption to your schedule. We are happy to come in on days that you are not at home. You will need to provide a key or house code for us to enter.

Do I need to be home when you deliver our pre-made meals?

No, you do not need to be home when we deliver your pre-made meals. If are not home, we ask that you leave out a cooler for us to put the food in. If you do not have a cooler, please let us know and we will provide you with a cooler bag that is reusable.

Do you have a menu I can view?

FoodZen Kitchen posts a new menu every Friday, you have until Sunday at 5:00 PM to sign up and make your meal selections. Your pre-made meals will be delivered on Wednesday. For our in-home personal chef service, all menus are customized to your tastes and dietary needs.

What types of diets can you accommodate?

Our FoodZen pre-made meals favour whole foods over processed ones, making most of our meals naturally dairy- and gluten-free. Please also note that our pre-made meals are made in a shared kitchen and we cannot guarantee that our meals are completely dairy- and gluten-free. You can see a list of ingredients under each meal selection. Our in-home personal chef service is completely customized and we can accommodate most food allergies and specialty diets.
NOTE: At this time, we are not able to support specific religious practices, such as Kosher.

What is the cost of groceries for the in-home meal service?

Groceries will vary based on your preferred grocery store, product preferences (i.e. organic vs non-organic) and menu. Up to this point, the average cost of groceries for the Weekly Meal Service has been between $50 and $120 and the Bi-Weekly Meal service is about $90 to $150 per service.

Do you provide the containers needed for storing the food?

For our pre-made meal delivery service, we provide the containers. Our containers for the most part are reusable and recyclable. For our in-home personal chef service, we do not supply the containers. We work with clients to make sure they have the necessary containers needed to store their food in each week. On your first visit, we can include the containers as part of the grocery shopping bill.

Do I need to provide / buy any kitchen tools for my personal chef to use?

For the most part, we will be using our own tools; knives, pots, pans, cutting boards and utensils. We may need to use some of your tools depending on the recipe. We will need access to your fridge, stove, bbq, oven and microwave for most meals.

If we already have the ingredient on hand, does the personal chef still buy it when they go grocery shopping?

No, we will work with the clients to determine what ingredients they already have on hand. Things like salt and pepper do not need to be bought each time. We are also happy to work with you if you have ingredients you need to use up.

How many servings are included with each pre-made bundle size?

Our individual bundle include 1 serving for each meal you select, the couple bundle includes 2 servings for each meal you select, the family bundle includes 4 servings for each meal you select and the large family bundle includes 6 servings for each meal you select. In an effort to reduce waste, your meals will come in 1 or 2 containers depending on the bundle you selected.

How are your pre-made meals packaged?

In an effort to reduce waste, your meals will come in 1 or 2 containers depending on the bundle you selected. This means if you order 3 meals family size, you will receive each meal in 1 container with 4 servings in each instead of 12 individual meals.

Once I sign up for a pre-made meal delivery bundle, how do I select my meals each week?

You can select your meals by logging into your account and going to the orders tab. Click on Choose meals. Select the meals you would like by clicking the + sign. Note you can choose a meal more than once. For some of our meal selections, you can customize your size. Click on the Customize button. Under the Customize tab click on the pencil icon. If you do not see the pencil icon, click on Add meal first. In the pulldown menu, you will be able to customize your sides. Once complete, hit the Confirm button. Click the X to exist the screen and continue with your additional meal selections.

Can I change the number of pre-made meals I receive each week?

Yes, you can go from 3 meals to 5 meals or vice versa by logging into your account and going to the subscription tab. Click edit. 

Can I change the pre-made meal bundle size I receive each week?

Yes, you can update your bundle size by logging into your account and going to the subscription tab. Click edit.

Can I skip a week or several for my pre-made meal delivery service?

Yes, you can skip a week or several by logging into your account and going to the skip tab. Choose the dates you would like to skip. 

What happens if I don't select my meals on time?

Meal selections are due on Sundays by 5:00 pm. FoodZen knows that life gets busy and sometimes unexpected circumstances happen. If we do not receive your meal selections by Sunday at 5:00 pm, we will not automatically select them for you. Instead, we will skip the week on your behalf and not charge you for that week.

Can I customize my pre-made meals?

At this time for our pre-made meals, we are not able to customize them. We list all the ingredients under the meal selection. For some of our meals, we also you to customize your sides. To customize your sides, click on the customize button under the meal selection. Here you will be able to see the general information, nutrition and default sides. Under the Customize tab click on the pencil icon. If you do not see the pencil icon, click on Add meal first. In the pulldown menu, you will be able to customize your sides. Once complete, hit the Confirm button.

When can I cancel my service/subscription?

For our in-home personal chef service, you can cancel anytime with 2 weeks notice. For our pre-made meal delivery service, you can cancel your subscription anytime. You can cancel your subscription by logging into your account, going to the subscription tab and click Unsubscribe.
